Indictment Withdrawn: 8 November 1999

GAA, whose full name is withheld by the ICTR to protect the individual’s identity, was a former Rwandan government official who was indicted for his alleged role in planning and participating in attacks on Tutsis. The prosecution charged GAA with direct responsibility for genocide, incitement to genocide, and crimes against humanity for murder and extermination.

In 1999, an ICTR Trial Chamber granted the prosecution’s motion to withdraw the indictment, following a decision to have GAA serve as a prosecution witness in other cases. As a protected witness, GAA’s full identity is not disclosed in public ICTR records.
