Indictment Withdrawn: 29 April 1998

Juventine Uwilingiyimana, the former Minister of Primary and Secondary Education in Rwanda, was indicted for her alleged role in planning and promoting attacks against Tutsis. The prosecution charged Uwilingiyimana with direct responsibility for genocide and crimes against humanity for acts of murder and extermination.

In 1998, an ICTR Trial Chamber granted the prosecution’s motion to withdraw the indictment after the prosecution determined that the evidence against Uwilingiyimana was insufficient to establish her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
