SUMMARY:Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) 194
DESCRIPTION:The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is holding its 194th Period of Sessions from November 10 to 21. The 194th Period of Sessions will include two thematic regional hearings which will take place at the University of Miami\, Florida\, United States. The first of these thematic hearings will take place on November 18 and will “focus on the challenges posed by the recruitment of children and adolescents by organized crime in the region.” The second thematic hearing will take place on November 21 and will focus on “the role of fiscal and economic policy in combating poverty and structural inequality in the Americas.” The deadline for registering to participate in these two hearings has passed. However\, those not selected to speak are still encouraged to submit relevant written documentation and information on the topics to be discussed. \nThe IACHR will also host a meeting with representatives of civil society on November 18\, also in Miami. This meeting does not have a specific theme. Its objective is to create a space for open dialogue between the Commission and members of civil society. The meeting will be conducted in Spanish. Those wishing to participate must register through the electronic form available in Spanish and English by November 10\, 2025\, at 11:59 p.m. (Washington\, D.C. time). According to the Commission’s website\, persons unable to register through the electronic form will have the opportunity to do so in person on site.

This year’s theme is the contribution of minorities to diverse\, resilient\, and peaceful societies. The forum will include panels on (a.) building trust and cohesion; (b.) recognizing the full contribution of minorities to the economic\, social\, cultural\, political\, and institutional fabric of the societies they are part of; and (c.) ensuring meaningful inclusion of minorities in peacebuilding\, accountability and transitional justice processes. Participants are required to register ahead of time through the UN’s Indico System.
