In August 2025, various universal and regional human rights bodies will assess States’ compliance with their human rights obligations through interactive dialogues, the consideration of State and civil society reports, country visits, and the review of individual complaints.

At the United Nations (UN), one human rights treaty body will meet in August to engage with States regarding their treaty obligations related to the end of discrimination against persons with disabilities. One of the UN Human Rights Council’s special procedures will also hold a session on arbitrary detention. Two other special procedures will be conducting country visits to Zimbabwe and to Brazil.

At the regional level, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) will be in session.

The sessions and country visits taking place in August are listed in the first section below, titled Hearings, Sessions and Country Visits. The UN treaty body sessions and the hearings of the Inter-American Court may be watched via UN Web TV and the Inter-American Court’s YouTube channel, respectively.

Additionally, in August and September NGOs and civil society actors will have a number of opportunities to submit written information to human rights bodies and mechanisms that is focused on specific countries or human rights issues. These opportunities are listed in the final section below, titled Calls for Input and Submissions.

For events and deadlines beyond September 2025, please visit our Hearings & Sessions Calendar.
